The moment a child is born, the mother is also born’

Postnatal Massage - Closing of The Bones

Congratulations on your bundle of joy!

Celebrating, honoring and nurturing a woman, welcoming her into motherhood; helping heal, praise and support this incredible journey.

The tradition also known as ‘Mother Wrapping’ has been in many cultures all around the world for thousands of years and shines a light on the importance of post-natal care generally.

For instance in my culture as a Hindu, traditionally a new mum would stay at her parents house for 40 days. This sacred time is believed to be a crucial postpartum recovery period which allows the new mum and baby to be taken care of by family giving the new mum time to bond with her newborn, allow her body to rest and recover from childbirth, whilst nutrient rich foods are prepared to help the body recover and return back to pre pregnancy. The new mum would receive regular oil massages to help heal her body especially the hips, womb and abdominal areas. The new mum is celebrated, nurtured and showered with love.

This tradition may have waned in modern times for many reasons; such as geographical distance from our families or smaller support systems, but a little piece of this care can be experienced via post-natal massage.

It can feel quite overwhelming post birth, your body is physically tired and trying to heal, you are responsible for a precious little one whilst sleepless nights have begun, your body doesn’t feel like your own and you are experiencing many new and different emotions.

Closing of the bones can help to mitigate some of the transformative effects of pregnancy, its a preventative care which helps to restore the new mother’s body impacting future intimacy, preventing back pain and generally promoting healing and health.

Prices start at £80

What is Closing of The Bones Massage?

During pregnancy you experience a lot of changes in the body; one being widening of the hips, after childbirth if the hips are not returned to their natural width it could lead to pelvic issues.

During the massage, I treat the whole person and body, I use a traditional Mexican shawl called ‘Rebozo’ which is like an extension of the arms and is used for sifting, rocking, cradling and articulating the hips. This allows the lower vertebrae to be released and enables mobilisation of the pelvis and hips. A complex abdominal and pelvic girdle massage using soothing oils to help the organs back to their original positions and hips to close back releasing any built up tension in the joints. The massage also stimulates blood flow which helps align the womb, tones muscle, releases fluid, balances hormones and stimulates the immune system.

At the end of the massage I will use the Rebozo to wrap/swaddle the head, shoulders, hips, thighs, knees and feet firmly - the feeling of security, safety and being like a butterfly in a cocoon ready to emerge and fly away to be free (Trust me, this feels so amazing)

The unwrapping is a beautiful experience as you will feel a sense of rebirth and feel

centered, deeply connecting to your womb.
